KATSEYE's Sophia Laforteza Goes Solo for Forgotten Island With INXS Cover

KATSEYE fans just got a surprise they weren’t expecting. Sophia Laforteza, who has been on hiatus from the group since August to focus on her health and well-being, recorded a reimagined version of INXS’s“Never Tear Us Apart”for the Forgotten Island soundtrack. It’s her first solo project, and she knew immediately it was the right one. In her words,“This is the most Sophia thing I could do.”

The film from DreamWorks Animation explores Filipino culture, family, friendship, and celebrating women, themes that clearly struck a chord with Sophia. She’s not carrying the soundtrack alone either. BINI, SB19, Lea Salonga, H.E.R., and Ruby Ibarra all appear alongside her, making this one of the most stacked Filipino and Filipino-American lineups in recent animation history. Oh, and the original INXS track was a top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit back in 1988, so this cover has serious legacy behind it.

Forgotten Island hits theaters Friday, which means this weekend you can hear Sophia’s take on a classic on the big screen. For fans who’ve been waiting to see what she’d do next, this is a pretty special answer.
