Freddy Wexler has written for some of the biggest names in music, and now he’s using that star power to launch a boy band his own way. Just Your Type, known as JYT, is a five-member group signed to Wexler Records and Republic Records, and the lineup came together after Wexler auditioned more than 1,300 young performers. The final five are Recker Eans, 16, Toby Green, 16, Caden Adamonis, 17, Bryan Chan, 18, and Tyler George, 16, all of whom moved to Los Angeles in July 2025 for a year of intensive training.
What sets JYT apart is how they found their first fans. Instead of chasing viral clips, the group toured summer camps across New York, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts, performing for more than 15,000 campers. Since phones were off the table at camp, word spread the slow way, through letters home. It’s a strategy straight out of the nineties playbook, and it’s working. The band released debut single“What U Want”in December 2025 and has dropped four more songs since.
The next chapter is big. JYT is set to perform on the full Jingle Ball tour this fall and has become Gap’s first Fashiontainment collaboration, a sign that the mall-era pop machine might be making a comeback. Wexler’s whole bet is that a boy band only works today if it’s real, and the members insist they’re just five best friends. Time will tell if chemistry beats the algorithm.
