Joyce DeWitt is opening up about the last night she ever spent with John Ritter, and the story started with pure coincidence. In August 2003, while DeWitt was in New York, paparazzi happened to mention that Ritter was in town. She called him, and the two met up at an Italian restaurant in the Village alongside Jim Belushi. Weeks later, Ritter died at 54 from an aortic dissection, making that dinner their final time together.
DeWitt told Page Six that not knowing it would be their last night made it“extraordinarily special,”adding,“It was dear, and it was precious.”The two co-starred on“Three’s Company”from 1977 to 1984, and that off-screen bond clearly never faded.
On November 2, DeWitt will join Ritter’s widow, Amy Yasbeck, for a 50th anniversary celebration of the show at Joe’s Pub. The event features a celebrity reading and benefits the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health. Have you ever had a random hangout turn into a memory you’ll never forget? Tell us in the comments.
