Influencer Accused Husband of Pedophilia on TikTok. Days Later, A Murder-Suicide.

A viral TikTok video has taken a deadly turn. Social media influencer Sara Gilson, 43, posted a shocking video on July 11 accusing her estranged husband Jeremiah Duffey of being a pedophile. She claimed he molested a 15-year-old girl from a youth basketball team he coached. Her caption read,“I wish I was joking. #plottwist #netflix #documentary.”She had obtained a protective order against him, hoping to keep herself and her children safe.

But safety never came. Days after the video went viral, police say Duffey broke into Gilson’s Oklahoma home. A 911 call captured the sound of a woman screaming followed by a gunshot. Then Gilson’s young son called dispatchers, saying his stepfather had shot his mother. When officers arrived, they found both Gilson and Duffey dead from gunshot wounds to the head in what is being investigated as a murder-suicide. The case is now drawing federal attention due to tribal jurisdiction.

This tragedy raises difficult questions about the effectiveness of protective orders and the risks of airing personal trauma on social media.
