HBO’s new drama War premieres October 1, 2026, and the premise is straightforward: Dominic West plays a billionaire tech mogul, Sienna Miller plays a famous actress, and the two spend the season fighting through mediation, arbitration, and trial as their marriage falls apart. George Kay created it, it’s already been renewed for season two, and Marisa Tomei and Kelly Macdonald are joining the cast. As a legal procedural, it does the job.
What’s actually driving the conversation, though, is the casting. Dominic West was photographed kissing Lily James in Rome in 2020, then gave a passive apology and, in an earlier interview, argued that women should be more indulgent of affairs. Sienna Miller’s story runs the other direction: Jude Law cheated on her in 2005 with his children’s nanny, very publicly, and while his career barely stuttered, hers hit a wall for years.
So now we have two actors who’ve lived through opposite sides of the same tabloid machine, playing a couple tearing each other apart on screen. It’s messy, it’s a little uncomfortable, and it’s exactly why people are tuning in. The question is whether the show holds up once the meta runs out. What do you think, does real-life drama make a show better or does it just distract?
