HBO has officially greenlit a Crazy Rich Asians series based on Kevin Kwan’s bestselling books, and the original cast is coming with it. Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Ronny Chieng will star, with Michelle Yeoh reprising her iconic role on a recurring basis. The first season runs eight episodes, and it’s framed as the follow-up fans have wanted since 2018.

The name behind the camera might be the biggest story here. Adele Lim, who co-wrote the 2018 film, is the showrunner and executive producer. Lim stepped away from the planned sequel years ago over a reported pay disparity, making her return to lead the series a genuine full-circle moment. She’s described this chapter as the sequel we’ve been waiting for.

What’s still up in the air: whether Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr. will return, and whether the series adapts more of Kwan’s books or continues Rachel and Nick’s story directly. The original film was a massive box office win and a cultural milestone, so expectations are sky-high.

Who’s the one cast member you absolutely need to see in this series? Tell us in the comments.
