Hayden Panettiere’s 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, appeared remotely in court Thursday alongside her father, Wladimir Klitschko, to confirm her identity during a hearing over guardianship of her late mother’s estate. Klitschko, Hayden’s ex-fiancé and Kaya’s dad, was granted temporary guardianship of the estate. His attorney also asked the court for authority to have law enforcement investigate property that Klitschko claims was misappropriated after Hayden’s death.

According to court documents filed by Klitschko, a non-family member allegedly pawned some of Hayden’s belongings, jewelry included. He argues that Kaya is entitled to the entirety of her mother’s assets. Hayden died in August at age 36 from an accidental overdose involving fentanyl and other substances. Sources close to her family told outlets they support the filing, saying,“Wlad is a great father, and we are grateful.”

Kaya has lived with Klitschko in Ukraine since he was awarded full custody in 2018. Klitschko’s attorney called the court appearance“the worst and most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to do.”The case is ongoing, and it raises hard questions about how a celebrity’s belongings are handled after death. What do you think should happen when family heirlooms go missing? Sound off in the comments.
