Hayden Panettiere’s 11-year-old daughter Kaya appeared remotely at a Thursday court hearing over her late mother’s estate, sitting alongside her father, former boxing champ Wladimir Klitschko. The judge granted Klitschko temporary guardianship of the estate, giving him the legal standing to investigate property he believes was misappropriated after Panettiere’s death. His attorney argued there’s a real and continuing risk that items belonging to Hayden, including jewelry, could be sold or made unrecoverable before anyone can step in.
Court filings claim some of Panettiere’s belongings have shown up in a pawn shop, prompting Klitschko to demand answers. He also stated he’s spent $30,000 of his own money to protect the estate from interest and penalties, and that Kaya, as Hayden’s sole heir, is the person this is all meant to protect.
Panettiere died in August at 36 from accidental toxic effects of multiple drugs, including fentanyl, according to the Greenville, South Carolina coroner’s office. Kaya won’t have to attend the next court date on December 7. What do you think protections for a minor’s inheritance should look like?
