Hayden Panettiere Was in Rehab Weeks Before Her Death, Coroner's Report Reveals

New details about Hayden Panettiere’s final weeks have been made public, and they paint a much fuller picture than we had before. According to a Greenville County Coroner’s Office report obtained by Page Six, the actress was in a Malibu drug rehab facility up until a few weeks before she died in August 2026. Her father, Skip Panettiere, told investigators she had recently been released after two or three weeks of treatment, and that she had struggled with addiction since her early twenties.

The report also notes that Panettiere dealt with postpartum depression following the 2014 birth of her daughter, Kaya, and that her addiction issues escalated afterward. One of the Hickerson brothers, whose name was redacted in the report, claimed he had previously administered Narcan to her.

On Tuesday, September 22, one month after she was found dead, the coroner revealed her cause of death: accidental toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine. There were no signs of trauma at autopsy. She was 36. The investigation into the source of the drugs remains ongoing and spans multiple states, meaning more information could still come out in the weeks ahead.
