Harry and Meghan Are Back in the U.K., But Not Back in the Royal Fold

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially traded Montecito for the British countryside. The couple relocated to the U.K. in late August 2026 with their children, Archie and Lilibet, planning to live outside London while holding onto both their California home and a vacation property in Portugal. That’s three time zones of real estate, if you’re counting.

What they are not doing is returning to royal duties. King Charles III has made it clear that their charitable work is private and their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests. Meghan’s As Ever lifestyle brand continues, so the commercial chapter is still very much open.

The rocky part? Archie and Lilibet briefly enrolled in a local British school, then left just days later after a photographer was spotted on the grounds. A spokesperson for the couple condemned the intrusion, drawing a line between legitimate media coverage and photographers walking the perimeter of a school. It raises the question plenty of fans are already asking: can Harry and Meghan ever actually get the private life they keep chasing?

Would you move your family across the ocean for a fresh start, or is that too big a gamble? Tell us in the comments.
