Halle Berry’s legal battle with ex-husband Olivier Martinez just got a new voice, and it belongs to her 18-year-old daughter. Nahla Aubry filed a sworn statement on October 5 saying that in all her years living with her mom, she never witnessed her act violently toward anyone. The filing lands days after Martinez obtained a domestic violence restraining order on October 1 for himself and the couple’s 13-year-old son, Maceo, alleging Maceo said he was choked during a September 26 argument.
Berry’s attorneys responded with a motion approaching 200 pages, calling the abuse allegations meritless and arguing the case is not about domestic violence. Berry’s account is that she and Maceo were playfully wrestling when he got upset and pushed her, a very different picture from what Martinez’s filing describes. Martinez is seeking an emergency change to the former couple’s 50-50 custody arrangement.
No findings have been made, and a court hearing is scheduled for October 16. Until a judge weighs in, this stays a case of dueling accounts, with two teenagers caught in the middle of a very public fight. What do you think, should family court filings stay sealed when kids are involved?
