Hailee Steinfeld Covers The Cars' "Magic" for Disney's New Movie "Hexed"

Hailee Steinfeld has released a cover of The Cars’1984 hit“Magic,”and it’s the first taste of Disney’s upcoming animated film“Hexed.”Her version keeps the original’s’80s flair while adding a brighter pop shine to the vocals. The original“Magic”reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 1984, so this is a nostalgia play with a modern twist.

Steinfeld isn’t just on the soundtrack. She voices the lead character, Billie Doe, a girl who discovers untapped magical abilities and journeys through a witch realm called Hexe. The voice cast around her includes Rashida Jones, Jodie Foster, Walton Goggins, Tracey Ullman and Stephen Fry.“Hexed”premieres in theaters Nov. 25.

This also continues a pattern for Steinfeld, who recorded“Dangerous”for the film“Sinners”back in April of last year. Blending music and acting, she says, feels like the fullest expression of who she is. Are you team original Cars version or team Steinfeld cover? Let us know.
