Grimes is officially back. The artist just announced her first album since 2020’s Miss Anthropocene, and it’s called Psyopera. The lead single,“Accelerando,”is a dark, ravey collaboration with VADAKIN and it’s out right now. The announcement arrived through a cryptic video touching on God, Eden, and artificial intelligence, which is about as Grimes as it gets.
Two things she wants fans to know up front. First, even though AI is a major theme on the album, no AI was used to create the songs. Second, there are no songs about ex Elon Musk.“I just didn’t want any of this to be about Elon,”she said. She also shared a line that’s already got fans dissecting it:“Please wait patiently for the failure of the system.”
The album will be the first release on her own label, Nazgul Recording LLC, marking a move toward full independence.
