The 57th annual GMA Dove Awards turned into a three-way race at the top. Phil Wickham, Josiah Queen and Brandon Lake each left Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena with three wins Friday night, with the show airing on TBN and TBN+. Wickham claimed artist of the year, Queen scored song of the year for“Dusty Bibles,”and Lake was named songwriter of the year.
The night spread the love across genres. Brandon Lake and Lainey Wilson teamed up for a country/roots win, Tasha Cobbs Leonard took home contemporary Gospel album of the year for“Tasha”plus a traditional Gospel recorded song honor, and Jamie MacDonald was crowned new artist of the year after sharing that he spent two decades waiting tables before a CeCe Winans record redirected his life. Host Tauren Wells returned for his fourth straight year, and the evening included a Dolly Parton tribute from Amy Grant and Natalie Grant, plus performances from Anne Wilson, Hulvey and Tye Tribbett.
Beyond the trophies, the show recognized Richard Smallwood and the organization God Behind Bars. For anyone who lives inside faith-based playlists, this was the year in review, all in one night.
