The Beatles, as captured by one of their own. A new book called The Third Eye: Early Photographs collects more than 200 photos that George Harrison took himself on his Pentax film camera between 1963 and 1970, and it’s already a bestseller.
Curated by Harrison’s widow, Olivia Harrison, the Random House release features 250 images ranging from unretouched photographs to 8mm movie stills. Fans get a firsthand look at the making of A Hard Day’s Night, the Ed Sullivan Show appearance, and the band’s world tours, all with captions drawn from Harrison’s own recollections.
Released Oct. 6, the book hit number one on Amazon’s bestselling photography books chart, proving once again that Beatles nostalgia never goes out of style. Harrison once said he liked cameras because you can make things look how they feel instead of how they are, and this collection is that idea in action.
