FKA Twigs, real name Tahliah Barnett, is no longer bound by the non-disclosure agreement she signed with ex-boyfriend Shia LaBeouf. The singer originally sued LaBeouf in 2020 for sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress. The case settled out of court in 2025, but that settlement included an NDA that prevented her from discussing sexual assault. Twigs then filed a second lawsuit arguing the agreement was unlawful, and LaBeouf reportedly demanded an exorbitant sum after she allegedly violated it.
On Tuesday, Twigs withdrew that lawsuit after LaBeouf agreed to terminate the NDA. Her lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, said the agreement violated the STAND Act, a law that bans silencing survivors of sexual abuse. LaBeouf has denied the abuse allegations but has publicly admitted to being abusive and aggressive in the past.
The outcome matters beyond one celebrity case. NDAs have long been used to keep survivors from speaking, and this fight turned one of those contracts into a legal loss. Twigs’team called it a victory for all female survivors of sexual abuse. So, do you think NDAs should ever be allowed to cover abuse allegations? Let us know in the comments.
