Fiona Apple has officially entered her television era, and the results are absolutely stunning. The legendary singer-songwriter just released“Horns of a Bull,”an original composition she created specifically as the title sequence for Apple TV’s new crime thriller Lucky, which premiered today with the first two episodes now streaming. Co-produced by Apple and her drummer Amy Aileen Wood, the track is a minimalist masterpiece featuring haunting piano, commanding percussion, and Fiona’s distinctive contralto vocals delivering cryptic lyrics about attention, heritage, and transformation. It’s exactly the kind of opening that makes you sit up and pay attention before the episode even starts.

What makes this collaboration even more meaningful is that Anya Taylor-Joy, the lead star of Lucky and an executive producer on the series, specifically pursued Fiona Apple because she wanted music that was female-centric with a rock edge. Anya called Fiona“the legend”and explained that her voice perfectly captures the show’s timbre, rawness, and gravelliness. Timothy Olyphant, who plays the lead character’s father, echoed that sentiment, revealing that when he first saw the title sequence, he immediately knew the series would be exceptional. The song appears on the official Lucky soundtrack composed by Isabella Summers from Florence + the Machine, which was released the same day the episodes went live.

Lucky follows Anya’s character as she’s forced to go on the run after a major heist goes wrong, pursued by both the FBI and a ruthless crime boss played by Annette Bening. The series is based on Marissa Stapley’s 2021 novel and was created by Jonathan Tropper and Reese Witherspoon. With a cast and production team this strong, plus an original title track by Fiona Apple, this is shaping up to be one of the must-watch series of the year. Have you started watching Lucky yet, or are you planning to dive in this weekend?
