F.B.I. Director Kash Patel is engaged to country singer Alexis Wilkins. She shared the news Sunday on Instagram with a photo of her ring and a caption that instantly became a talking point:“Went and got the law involved.”Patel, 46, and Wilkins, 27, met at a fall 2022 party at John Rich’s Nashville home and started dating by early 2023. She was seated in the gallery during his Senate confirmation hearing.

The engagement also lands in the middle of a bigger conversation. Over the past year, Patel’s relationship has drawn scrutiny over reports that he used taxpayer funds for travel and security tied to Wilkins. The New York Times reported that F.B.I. tactical agents drove her to appointments and guarded a senior center where she sang. Wilkins released a six-song EP called Grit in 2023 and has not put out a full-length album.
