Eva Marie Saint, one of the last surviving icons of Hollywood’s golden age, has died at 102. The Oscar-winning actress passed away Tuesday of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles, according to a family spokesperson. She leaves behind a legacy that spans over seven decades and some of the most beloved films ever made.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Saint began her career on live television and the New York stage before making her film debut in Elia Kazan’s“On the Waterfront”in 1954. That performance earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, which she famously accepted while nine months pregnant. She joked on stage that she might have the baby right there, and gave birth just two days later. She went on to star as the female lead in Alfred Hitchcock’s“North by Northwest,”a film ranked No. 40 on AFI’s 100 Greatest American Movies list, and appeared in other classics including“Exodus”and“The Sandpiper.”

Saint never stopped working. She earned an Emmy for her television work, appeared on“Moonlighting,”and introduced herself to a new generation of fans through“Because of Winn-Dixie”and“Superman Returns.”Off screen, she shared 65 years of marriage with director Jeffrey Hayden until his passing in 2016. She is survived by two children and four grandchildren. Which Eva Marie Saint performance will you always remember? Let us know in the comments.
