Erika Kirk Opens Up About the Moment She Thought Charlie Kirk Might Survive

A new Vanity Fair profile is giving the world a rare look at how Erika Kirk experienced the day Charlie Kirk was killed. She recalls being at an appointment with her mother in September 2025 when she got the call that he’d been shot. On the way to the Utah hospital, she held onto hope, because his heart was still beating intermittently.“I remember thinking,‘Oh dear God, he’s going to make it. He has a pulse,'”she said in the interview.

That hope ended at the hospital, where a surgeon told her everything the hospital had, every drop of available blood, was used trying to save him. She also described watching surveillance footage from the shooting, shown in court during suspect Tyler Robinson’s preliminary hearing, and making the decision to see her husband’s body even after authorities warned her against it.“I didn’t get a kiss goodbye this morning. I just want to kiss my husband,”she recalled telling an officer.
