Emma Heming Willis Opens Up About Bruce's Dementia: "A Constant State of Grief"

Emma Heming Willis is sharing the reality of loving someone through frontotemporal dementia, and she’s not softening a single word. In a new interview with Hello! magazine, she described caring for Bruce Willis — diagnosed with FTD in February 2023 — as a“constant state of grief,”adding that it is“extremely difficult and painful.”It’s the kind of honesty that gives the rest of us a window into what thousands of families quietly live through every day.

She also used the moment to correct a big misconception.“Bruce doesn’t have Alzheimer’s,”she said.“He has frontotemporal dementia, which affects a completely different part of the brain.”And yes — Bruce, 71, still recognizes her. She wants media coverage of dementia to be accurate instead of fear-driven, so families get real information instead of scary headlines.

There’s joy in this story too. All five of Bruce’s daughters — Mabel, Evelyn, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah — have their own unique bond with him, and he was photographed this August celebrating at Tallulah’s wedding alongside her new husband.
