Emily Osment is opening up about one of the more awkward parts of playing Mandy McAllister on“Young Sheldon.”When her character’s romance with Georgie Cooper, played by Montana Jordan, started heating up, she raised a concern with producers. She was 30. He was 18. And kissing scenes with a co-star nearly 12 years younger felt uncomfortable, especially since the two had only just met. Her quote says it all:“He was a baby! A baby with a mullet.”

She asked for an intimacy coordinator, and while one wasn’t available that day, the production brought one in for later episodes as the onscreen relationship grew more serious. The episode’s director, Alex Reid, admitted the production“totally dropped the ball”by not having one in place from the start. Co-creator Steve Molaro backed Osment entirely, saying she had every right to ask, and noted she eventually felt comfortable enough to film without one.

The romance clearly resonated with viewers, since Georgie and Mandy went on to headline their own spin-off,“Georgie&Mandy’s First Marriage.”The story is sparking bigger conversations about age gaps between romantic co-stars and how shows handle on-set comfort. So what do you think: should every romantic scene on a network show come with an intimacy coordinator, or is it a case-by-case call?
