Ryan Murphy’s“Monster”anthology has tackled Dahmer and the Menendez brothers, and now it’s taking on the case that started America’s true-crime obsession: Lizzie Borden. Season 4,“Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story,”is streaming now on Netflix, and the actress playing Lizzie is Ella Beatty, 26, the daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening.
If the last name sounds familiar, it should. Her father is an Oscar-winning Hollywood icon, her mom is a four-time Oscar nominee, and her aunt is Shirley MacLaine. But Ella says her parents kept the advice simple:“get interested rather than be interesting,”and never be the smartest person in the room. She also calls her mother her hero and her best friend, and says watching her parents fall in love on the set of“Bugsy”was“so special.”
Ella isn’t new to the screen. She appeared in Murphy’s“Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans,”Broadway’s“Appropriate,”and the 2025 film“If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.”Now she’s leading a Netflix anthology opposite Charlie Hunnam as Lizzie’s father. The 1892 Borden case remains one of the most debated mysteries in American history, and Murphy’s take is already sparking conversation.
