The New York Film Festival hosted the premiere ofYou Can See Everything, a nearly three-hour documentary about Elizabeth Holmes codirected by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. But the real scene happened outside, where members of a group called Just Blood handed out flyers and pushed a petition demanding her release. The group’s founder, Ryan Elhosseiny, claims he rebuilt Theranos’blood-testing technology using trial exhibits and company patents, and he insists Holmes was telling the truth all along.

Here’s where the story gets complicated. Holmes was convicted on four federal fraud counts back in 2022 and sentenced to 11 years in prison. She’s currently serving her sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas and is scheduled to transfer to a halfway house in August 2027. Meanwhile, the Change.org petition to free her has collected just 364 signatures, which is a pretty modest showing for a movement trying to overturn a federal conviction.

So the big question is whether the fascination with Holmes as a pop culture figure has started to blur into something else entirely. True crime documentaries thrive on complicated subjects, but there’s a difference between exploring a story and campaigning to rewrite its ending. Either way, this saga clearly isn’t fading from the spotlight anytime soon.

Would you watch a three-hour documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, or is the whole story already told? Sound off in the comments.
