El Estepario Siberiano has made a name for himself with one-take drum videos, but Drumeo’s challenge asked him to do something different: play a song he had never heard before. The Spanish drummer, born Jorge Garrido, sat down cold and built a drum part in real time. His first reaction was honest.“I am terrified. I don’t like this at all.”
As the track played, Garrido guessed it sounded like Chris Cornell or Soundgarden. He worked through multiple attempts and adjusted his drum setup before landing an acceptable take that the Drumeo team praised. The reveal?“The Hand That Feeds”by Nine Inch Nails, and Garrido said he had never heard the band in his life.
The most interesting part came after the reveal. Garrido compared his performance to Trent Reznor’s original programmed drums and found similarities in the tom patterns and transitions. A drummer going in blind matched the feel of the real thing. What band would you want to see a drummer take on with no advance warning?
