Ed Sheeran’s tour is in freefall, and it all traces back to one speech. Macklemore was on the bill, delivered a pro-Palestine message during a New Jersey show, and was removed from the tour shortly after. The Israeli-American Council and billionaire Robert Kraft reportedly pushed for the exit, and Kraft confirmed his involvement, citing what he called a history of antisemitic rhetoric and saying his venue doesn’t offer a platform for hate speech.
The response came fast. Finneas, Lukas Graham, Beoga, and Aaron Rowe all pulled out in solidarity, and then Sheeran’s entire backing band followed. Beoga referenced Ireland’s own history with colonialism in their statement, framing the moment as bigger than one tour. Across the board, the departing artists made the same argument: nobody should get silenced for speaking up for the oppressed, and money doesn’t earn you the right to control the conversation.
Sheeran has said the decision wasn’t his and that he tried to find a solution. For fans, though, the damage is already done. This one’s raising bigger questions about celebrity, free speech, and how much sway wealthy insiders hold over who gets heard on the biggest stages.
