Don Lemon is floating a presidential run, and he’s doing it on his own podcast. The former CNN anchor told“Uncloseted”host Spencer Macnaughton that he’s thought about running for president and puts his odds at 65% to 70%. His one stated condition:“If the people want me, I’ll do it.”He also admitted a campaign would be an all-consuming full-time job, which is why he’s still weighing it against his first love, journalism.

It’s been a busy few years for Lemon. CNN fired him in 2023 after a string of controversies, most memorably calling Nikki Haley“past her prime.”He then built his own YouTube channel and was arrested in January over a church takeover protest. He pleaded not guilty in February and his legal team filed motions to dismiss in August. So a potential run would arrive with plenty of baggage and plenty of headlines.

Lemon framed the decision as an existential one, saying he wonders whether his best way of operating in this society is through journalism or through becoming president. That’s a big question for a podcast episode, and it’s already sparking the classic debate: should media personalities jump into politics, or should they stay behind the mic?

So we want to know: would you actually vote for Don Lemon? Sound off in the comments.
