Six weeks after her death, Dolly Parton still found a way to show up where it mattered most. On Wednesday, October 7, the CMA Foundation’s Music Teachers of Excellence event featured a video message Parton recorded before she passed. Zac Brown introduced the clip to a room full of educators, and the CMA shared the footage on Instagram Thursday. In it, Dolly thanked teachers for their passion and care, saying music brings people together but none of it happens without dedicated teachers who encourage and inspire the next generation.
Parton died at age 80 on August 25 after a battle with cancer. Her nephew Bryan Seaver announced her passing in a video on her Instagram. The CMA message isn’t her only posthumous appearance this week either. She also accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Americana Honors&Awards, proving her presence is still very much part of the conversation.
For anyone who grew up on Dolly’s music or benefited from a music program, this one lands a little different. She spent her final recorded moments shining a spotlight on teachers instead of herself, which is about as Dolly as it gets. What music teacher deserves a shoutout from you today?
