AC/DC closed out the Power Up Tour at MetLife Stadium on Friday, Oct. 2, and the night came with a surprise most fans never saw coming: Foo Fighters as the opening act, followed by Dave Grohl returning to the stage to sing“Highway to Hell”with Brian Johnson and Angus Young. The show itself was a makeup date after a nor’easter pushed the original Sept. 25 stop, so the crowd already had that“we waited for this”energy. They got rewarded.
Grohl took a moment during the set to tell the stadium about watching AC/DC’s“Let There Be Rock”movie at 11 years old and deciding right then he wanted to play rock for the rest of his life. It wasn’t the first time the two bands shared a bill on this run either. Foo Fighters also opened for AC/DC in St. Louis on Sept. 8, filling in for The Pretty Reckless. So the partnership had already been building before New Jersey got the finale.
What happens next is the big question. AC/DC hasn’t announced any further tour dates, and with Power Up hitting No. 1 back in 2020, this could be the last time fans see the band on a stadium stage for a long while. Whether it’s a real goodbye or just a pause, they went out with a full-circle moment and one very loud singalong.
