SNL is about to get loud. Dakota Johnson hosts this Saturday, Oct. 3, with Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile as the musical guest, and the promo is already doing numbers. In it, Johnson tells comedian Ben Marshall she’ll form a“wall of death”for the band. His reply: his doctor forbids him from moshing.
The booking itself is history. Turnstile is the first hardcore act on SNL since Fear’s infamous 1981 performance, the one where the crowd stormed the stage and wrecked the set. Forty-five years later, a hardcore band is back in Studio 8H, and this time it arrives with hardware: Turnstile won two of its four Grammy nominations this year, taking home Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance.
Johnson, meanwhile, is promoting“Verity,”the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestseller, so she’s in full promo mode. The episode airs at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
