C.W. Morgan, the actor best known for playing Hank Loomis in the 1996 horror classic“Scream,”has died at 72. His daughter Renata Macfie announced his passing on Facebook on Aug. 31, writing that losing him“has left the biggest hole in my heart.”According to Los Angeles Medical Examiner records, Morgan died Aug. 30 in Los Angeles County. His cause of death is unclear, but an LAPD spokesperson told TMZ it appears to have been from natural causes.

For“Scream”fans, Hank Loomis isn’t just a background character. His affair with Sidney Prescott’s mother is the secret that unravels everything, fueling the revenge plot that turns his son Billy into the original Ghostface killer. Morgan brought that complicated family dynamic to life, and he returned for a flashback scene in 2000’s“Scream 3.”His final credited acting role was a 2000 episode of“Nash Bridges.”

In her tribute, Macfie shared some deeply personal memories:“I miss you endlessly already. I will carry on our Mulholland drives and our Starbucks outings.”She added,“Life will never be the same without you and your poorly timed jokes that I inherited from you.”It’s a reminder that behind every iconic film role is a real person who mattered most to the people who knew him best.
