Colby the Maltipoo Is Home: Microchip Reunites San Diego Dog With Family After Nearly Three Years

Colby the Maltipoo had been missing from his San Diego family for almost three years, but last Tuesday a single microchip scan ended the search. The San Diego Humane Society found the little dog as a stray, dirty and covered in fleas, and brought him in for a bath, flea treatment, and a full exam. That’s when staff scanned his microchip and discovered he had been reported missing nearly three years earlier.

The shelter called Colby’s owner, Cindy, the same evening. She and her son Gregory showed up the next morning to bring him home. Cindy told the Humane Society the family had given up hope, but thanks to the microchip she got the call right away, adding that she had thought about him every single day while he was gone.

The Humane Society is using Colby’s story to remind pet owners that microchips make all the difference.
