Christy Carlson Romano Says "Cadet Kelly" Co-Star Shawn Ashmore Ghosted Her Over Fame

Christy Carlson Romano is telling the story she’s been holding onto for decades. The“Even Stevens”and“Kim Possible”star says she dated“Cadet Kelly”co-star Shawn Ashmore while they filmed the 2002 movie and after, when she was 18, and that he eventually ghosted her. The reason she heard? His team didn’t think she was famous enough for them to keep dating.

Romano shared the story on Instagram, framing it as an example of how rough the industry can be for young women.“Hollywood is brutal for a young girl,”she wrote, adding that the experience is one of many she opens up about in her new memoir,“Once Upon a Trainwreck,”which hits shelves October 6. It’s the latest in a string of candid revelations from Romano, who has also spoken about getting breast implants as a teen and about losing millions of her Disney earnings.

A rep for Ashmore did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment. Romano says she’s past worrying about who her honesty upsets, saying if her story helps even one person, it was worth it. If you grew up watching her on Disney Channel, this one’s worth following, and so is the book.
