Christy Carlson Romano is getting candid about a search a lot of us can relate to: finding where you actually belong. On the Oct. 8 episode of“Sorry We’re Cyrus,”the former Disney Channel star, now 42, shared that she tried Buddhism, Scientology, and Catholicism while looking for God and a sense of community. It’s a surprising confession from someone who grew up in the public eye.

But the part that really stands out is what she took away from it. Romano, who shares daughters Sophia, 7, and Isabella, 6, with husband Brendan Rooney, says she now wants her kids to find themselves from within instead of losing themselves while chasing community and outside validation. That’s a lesson most adults are still learning.

The timing lines up with her new memoir,“Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Fall and Rise of a Child Star,”which came out Oct. 6 and covers her early fame, financial instability, addiction, and recovery. Have you ever gone looking for belonging somewhere unexpected? Tell us your story.
