Christopher Lloyd turned 88 on Thursday, and he celebrated with a post that any Back to the Future fan would recognize instantly. On X, he wrote,“Today I turn 88… I’ve seen some serious s–t. The most serious of it all is love.”The number is no accident; it’s a callback to Doc Brown’s famous warning to Marty McFly about the DeLorean needing 88 miles per hour to time travel.
The birthday love kept rolling on Instagram, where Michael J. Fox commented,“Great Scott, you’re 88! That’s some serious s–t, love you!”Lloyd responded that the pair are timeless. He also shared a birthday video message with fans, keeping the celebration going across platforms.
If that wasn’t enough, Lloyd’s memoir, In My Own Time, comes out next week, which means there’s a whole lot of Doc Brown-adjacent content to look forward to. Forty years after the first Back to the Future film, Lloyd is still out here making 88 the most quotable number in cinema. What’s your all-time favorite Doc Brown moment?
