Christina Applegate has spent almost six years living as a person with multiple sclerosis, and now she says that diagnosis was wrong. On a new episode of her“MeSsy”podcast, she opened up about feeling like“a fraud”and being“f—king frustrated”to be back at square one. The news comes about a month after she first revealed she does not have MS, five years after going public with it.
Here’s what makes this sting: her symptoms never improved. Applegate said she still relies on a wheelchair for doctor visits and even timed herself getting out of bed one morning — it took 10 minutes. She’s now being tested“one by one”for conditions that can mimic MS, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and Lyme disease, with no firm answer yet on what’s actually going on.
She also pledged to stay part of the MS community, and podcast guest Jack Osbourne, who has MS, said he sometimes feels“a bit of a fraud”about his own symptoms too — proof that these autoimmune conditions are notoriously hard to pin down. Have you ever had a diagnosis turn out to be wrong? Tell us in the comments.
