Christina Applegate Reveals She Was Misdiagnosed With MS: "My Health Got Worse"

Christina Applegate is starting over, and she’s doing it out loud. The actress shared on her“MeSsy”podcast that the multiple sclerosis diagnosis she’s carried since 2021 was actually a misdiagnosis. Instead of improving, she said her health has gotten worse, and doctors are now planning an“online investigation”to determine what’s really been going on. She described the news as a“mindf–k”and admitted she’s still in a state of shock.

The fallout has been brutal. Applegate said she fell into“a great depression”after the original diagnosis, lost her job, and felt like it“stopped my life.”She spent months in the hospital beginning in March before being discharged last month, and she still relies on a wheelchair for doctor visits, saying she can’t walk from the car into the room. She also opened up about the guilt of feeling like she let down the MS community she’d come to represent.

Through all of it, her honesty has been the constant. Whether she’s talking about parenting through illness or the pressure of being the public face of a disease, Applegate keeps it unflinchingly real. Now the big question is what comes next, and how long the answers will take.
