Newly obtained footage shows what happened on the dance floor at Tape nightclub in Mayfair back in February 2023: Chris Brown grabbing producer Abe Diaw by the hood and striking him repeatedly over the head with a heavy square tequila bottle. His vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, was also involved in the attack, according to the video obtained by Page Six.
On Monday at Southwark Crown Court, Brown pleaded guilty to affray and received an eight-month suspended sentence, meaning he avoids jail time. Akinlolu admitted affray as well and received a suspended sentence on the same charge. Judge Tony Baumgartner described the repeated use of a glass bottle aimed at the head as“plainly dangerous,”noting it carried the risk of a more serious injury than the one sustained. Diaw was hospitalized with head and knee injuries and filed a lawsuit against Brown in October 2023. Brown was arrested in March 2025 and posted five million pounds bail before entering his plea.
The case has reignited the long-running debate about celebrity accountability, especially given Brown’s history of legal troubles dating back to 2009. A global music star admitting to a violent, caught-on-video attack and walking free on a suspended sentence is the kind of outcome people are going to be arguing about for a while. Where do you land on it?
