Cher Wins Court Round in Conservatorship Battle as Son Elijah Skips Hearing

Uzcategui reappointed counsel for Allman and continued the case to December 1st. Cher is currently seeking to pause her California conservatorship petition while a separate guardianship case in New Hampshire moves forward. That case has already determined guardianship is appropriate, and now the debate is over who should serve in that role.

The dispute pits Cher against her daughter-in-law, Marieangela King. Cher is backing her other sons, Chaz Bono and Devon Allman, for the guardian position. King opposes the conservatorship and wants the role herself. Cher’s attorneys have claimed that King sees“a financial opportunity to control his income.”Cher’s petition argues her son is“gravely disabled”and struggles with drug dependency and financial mismanagement. The judge noted that Allman“is entitled to have someone here for today’s hearing,”which is why the matter was continued.
