Kathryn Kirk wants the record straight. In a Vanity Fair interview published September 29, Charlie Kirk’s mother sat down alongside her daughter-in-law Erika Kirk and addressed rumors of a rift between the two, saying they’ve grown closer through shared trauma and that the family was fully behind Erika’s leadership of Turning Point USA.
The speculation didn’t come out of nowhere. Erika took over as TPUSA CEO after Charlie was shot and killed at Utah Valley University in September 2025, and the organization has seen internal pushback since, including a University of Georgia chapter president resigning in April over claims the group strayed from Charlie’s vision. On top of that, Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing Charlie, has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder. A judge ruled in early September that his case will go to trial, where he faces the death penalty if convicted.
Kathryn’s message in the interview was steady: the world will not break her, and she and Erika are on the same side. Have the past few months changed how you see this story?
