Carson Daly is back where it all started. The former TRL co-host returned to the show’s original Times Square studio to film a reunion special, according to a new report. The special is expected to arrive sometime next year, but in a surprising twist, it’s reportedly set for Roku rather than MTV, the network that launched TRL back in 1998.

Daly, who co-hosted the show alongside Toby Amies and Ananda Lewis, is reportedly producing the special with Tony DiSanto, TRL’s original creator. Adding fuel to the nostalgia fire, TRL-era stars including JoJo, Mya, Ashanti, JC Chasez and Nelly were spotted near the studio last week. Neither Roku nor MTV has confirmed the report, so treat the details as rumor for now, but the pieces are lining up.

For millennials, TRL was more than a show. It was the daily ritual of racing home for the countdown, dialing in votes and watching artists pop up live in that glass-walled studio while fans screamed outside. When MTV canceled the show in September 2008, it closed a chapter on an entire era of music television. A reunion special, even on a streaming platform, is a chance to relive all of it.
