Carole Radziwill Says RHONY Cast Bombarded Her About JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette: "It Was Like a Body Slam"

Carole Radziwill’s return to The Real Housewives of New York City came with a storyline she never planned to touch. Season 16 filmed while FX’s“Love Story”was airing, and with the Kennedy saga back in the cultural conversation, her castmates wanted answers about the people she actually knew. Carole was close with John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, and she was married to Anthony Radziwill, John’s cousin, until his death from cancer in 1999.

In an interview with USA Today, Carole described the experience in blunt terms.“That show, really, it was like a body slam,”she said, adding,“It was very hard. I hadn’t planned on talking about it.”The timing made it unavoidable. Anthony died just weeks after the 1999 plane crash that killed John and Carolyn, a period of her life Carole already documented in her 2005 memoir“What Remains.”

The moment raises a bigger question about reality TV and grief. Carole shared this story on her own terms, in her own book, nearly twenty years ago.
