Candace Cameron Bure is best known for cozy Christmas movies, so watching her take on chemical warfare drills and boxing matches has been a serious plot twist. She’s a recruit on Season 5 of Fox’s“Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,”which premiered Sept. 24, and she says she signed on for one reason: she just turned 50 and wanted to know if she still has the guts to do something truly difficult.

The challenges have not been gentle. She’s faced heights, a boxing match, and a chemical warfare challenge, and a hostage rescue simulation led to an emotional tactical questioning session with the directing staff. Through it all, Bure has said her faith in Jesus is her main resource, telling critics who assume she lives in a bubble that her faith is exactly what she uses in the toughest moments.

She’s still in the competition as of episode four, which is more than a lot of people predicted. Love her or not, choosing the hardest room in the building at 50 is a move worth talking about. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever volunteered for? Tell us in the comments.
