Pedro Moro was walking through a public plaza in Ibiraçu, Brazil, when he spotted a stack of cash on August 28. About US$219 in reais. What he didn’t know yet was that it was the entire monthly salary of 24-year-old construction worker Matheus Reginaldo Celestino, money he’d withdrawn for his daughter’s needs. Matheus didn’t even realize the cash was missing until he arrived at a barbeque.

Instead of keeping the money or moving on, Pedro turned into a one-man search party. For 12 days, he posted on social media, asked around at local businesses, and reviewed security camera footage. His own neighborhood kept him on task: everywhere he went, people asked,“Pedro, where’s the owner?”Eventually, Matheus saw the Instagram post and contacted him.

Pedro wasn’t taking any chances on a false claim. He asked Matheus how many 10s, 20s, and 100s were in the stack. Matheus answered correctly, and the money went home. He had already accepted it as lost. Would you go that far to return a stranger’s lost cash? Drop your answer in the comments.
