When a 69,000-square-foot artificial intelligence data center gets proposed near one of Nashville’s beloved attractions, you’d think someone would hit pause. Country star Brad Paisley certainly thinks so—and he’s not keeping quiet about it.

The proposed development would sit roughly 50 yards from animals at the Nashville Zoo, including leopards, according to the filing that’s already been submitted to demolish two buildings in the area. That’s close enough to matter, especially when you’re talking about a massive facility that Paisley describes as an“enormous monstrosity”and“absolute eyesore.”In a video message, he made his position crystal clear: this project doesn’t belong there and would detract from both the zoo and the surrounding community in every conceivable way.

Paisley isn’t shouting into the void either. A petition opposing the data center has already gathered more than 311,000 signatures, and the names backing it carry real weight. Environmental activist Erin Brockovich—the same person Julia Roberts famously portrayed in the 2000 film about her life—has signed on to the opposition. That kind of momentum suggests this isn’t just a celebrity gripe; it’s become a genuine community movement.

The pressure campaign is now squarely on DC BLOX, the Atlanta-based company behind the project. They’ve filed permits and presumably have their plans locked in, but when you’re up against a country music icon, an environmental legend, and more than 300,000 petition signatures, the path forward just got significantly rockier. Whether that’s enough to stop the project cold or simply slow it down remains to be seen—but one thing’s certain: Nashville’s about to have a serious conversation about what belongs near its zoo.
