Mackie’s career spanned over six decades and included designs for Marilyn Monroe’s 1962“Happy Birthday”dress, Cher’s iconic 1974 Met Gala naked dress, and 11 years of costumes for The Carol Burnett Show. His client list also included Diana Ross, Elton John, and contemporary stars like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter.
His Instagram statement celebrated a life lived to the fullest, noting that he fulfilled his lifelong dream of being a designer.“His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world.”
