Boat Rentals and Hot Tubs: The Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini Saga Deepens

The controversy surrounding New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and former NFL reporter Dianna Russini just got messier—and we’ve got the receipts. Documents obtained by TMZ reveal that the two signed waivers for a private boat rental in Putnam County, Tennessee back in June 2021, complete with photographic evidence of Vrabel posing with staff during the outing.

The timing here is everything. At the moment of that boat ride, Russini was pregnant and expecting her first child with her husband, Kevin Goldschmidt. She’d go on to give birth later that summer. Meanwhile, Vrabel has been married to his wife, Jen Vravel, since 1999, and the couple shares two children. Yet somehow, both remain married to their respective partners even as the public speculation about the nature of their relationship refuses to die.

This is the latest piece of a puzzle that started coming together in April when Page Six published photos of Vrabel and Russini linking hands and sharing a hot tub at an Arizona resort. Vrabel dismissed the images as“completely innocent,”while Russini characterized it as a casual group hangout. But the narrative just keeps expanding. Since those initial photos surfaced, multiple outlets have published additional shots of the two together—each one adding another layer to a story that neither party seems willing to fully address.

The fallout has been significant. On April 14, Russini resigned from her position at The Athletic while insisting her relationship with the football coach was strictly professional. She issued a statement emphasizing her journalistic integrity and pushing back against what she called“self-feeding speculation that is simply unmoored from the facts.”Vrabel, for his part, returned to coach the Patriots after announcing he’d seek counseling, framing the decision as part of his commitment to being a better husband, father, and coach.

What’s remarkable about this entire saga is how both parties have tried to maintain their standing while the evidence—documents, photos, timelines—keeps complicating their explanations. The boat rental docs suggest a documented interaction between two married people at a time when one was pregnant. It’s not damning on its own, but paired with the hot tub photos and the subsequent media frenzy, it paints a picture of a relationship that warranted professional and personal intervention. The question isn’t whether the boat ride itself was inappropriate—it’s why two married people with established careers felt the need to rent a private boat together in the first place.
