Billy Crystal has played some legendary rooms, but apparently none tested his composure like the SNL stage next to Christopher Guest. At PaleyFest NY 2026, Crystal told the audience he“couldn’t look Chris Guest in the face”during their sketches because Guest made him laugh so hard. The two starred in Season 10’s recurring“Willie and Frankie”sketches, playing a pair of masochists, and the bit required Crystal to keep a straight face while Guest did his thing. Spoiler: it did not always work.
The breaking point came during a live sketch when Guest swapped a line for“I stripped down to the nude,”leaving Crystal fighting to hold it together on national television.“Chris makes me laugh like crazy,”Crystal admitted.“There were so many times I couldn’t even look at him.”The Oct. 12 Q&A, moderated by Whoopi Goldberg, also had Crystal praising Martin Short and the late Robin Williams, plus reflecting on his off-screen work with Guest on“This Is Spinal Tap”and“The Princess Bride.”
