Billie Lourd Says Debbie Reynolds Told the Elizabeth Taylor Affair as a Bedtime Story

Billie Lourd is opening up about the stories her grandmother Debbie Reynolds used to tell, and one of them happens to be the most famous love triangle in Hollywood history. In a new Times interview, Lourd said Reynolds treated the saga of Eddie Fisher leaving her for Elizabeth Taylor as one of her favorite bedtime stories.

The timeline is truly wild. Reynolds and Fisher were one of the biggest couples of the 1950s until Fisher began an affair with close friend Elizabeth Taylor after Taylor’s husband Mike Todd died in a 1958 plane crash. Reynolds reportedly didn’t find out until a dinner party where guests were whispering about Eddie and Elizabeth. The couple divorced on May 12, 1959, and Fisher married Taylor the same day, just three hours later. The two would later divorce in 1964.

Lourd also reflected on her famous family in the interview, saying,“I’m Carrie Fisher’s daughter and I’m Debbie Reynolds’s granddaughter, and I feel so lucky to be able to say that.”It’s a reminder that behind every legendary Hollywood scandal is a family that lived it, and sometimes tells it with love.
