Ben Affleck brought his new Netflix political thriller“Animals”to the Directors Village Theatre in Los Angeles Thursday night, and the premiere was as much a celebration of the city as it was of the film. Before the screening, Netflix hosted a pre-reception honoring Hispanic Heritage Month with Latino-owned vendors. Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria called the movie“a love letter to Angelenos,”and the production numbers back that up.“Animals”employed nearly 900 crew members and supported more than 600 local businesses.

Affleck, who directed and stars in the film, also used the moment to praise Netflix’s performance-based compensation, saying the company showed him“a different and better way.”He then introduced cast members Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun and Adriana Paz. Matt Damon produced through Artists Equity. The film follows an LA mayoral candidate who is forced to get his hands dirty after his son is kidnapped, and according to those in the room, the final 20 minutes got some very loud reactions.

“Animals”begins streaming on Netflix on October 9. So the real question is: are you watching it opening night, or are you waiting for everyone else to spoil the ending first? Let us know in the comments.
